All educators understand the importance of intervention but often question it's effectiveness. Why? The time, resources and management. Testing pressure has compounded the issue but it doesn't need to be such an arduous task. Be realistic and purposeful. Follow this helpful checklist to guide you through:
It is also recommended to keep an intervention record that notes the date, student(s) you work with and the activity covered. This provides evidence of your interventions and helps track progress and intervention activity effectiveness.
- Identify the children in need of intervention
- Identify areas of need for each child (some common examples are number sense and spelling)
- Construct intervention groups of no more than six children in each
- Identify 15 minute windows in each day when you can commit yourself to intervention instruction (additional time enables you to meet with more than one group in 15 minute blocks)
